Canberra Switchboard Upgrades

Many older homes in Canberra, Queanbeyan and surrounding districts still have an original, outdated electrical switchboard with porcelain fuses. These electrical switchboards do not meet Australian Standards and could be dangerous. Fuses are designed as a safety feature, but old or faulty fuses can lead to electrical faults and fire.

We specialise in electrical safety, ensuring your switchboard  meets all current applicable safety standards.

Your switchboard most likely needs attention if -

  • You have a fuse that keeps tripping out resulting in loss of power to part or all of your property. This is a situation that should be given your urgent attention.
  • Your house is getting on in years. Technology has advanced significantly in the last 20 years and the protective systems and applicable wiring standards of today are far superior and all designed with your safety in mind.
  • It is exposed to the weather. The harsh year round conditions in our location mean that systems can deteriorate if not protected or maintained.
  • Over the years additions and alterations to your property have resulted in a mish mash of wiring which is untidy and could become unsafe. This is probably not apparent looking at the front of your switchboard.

Contact us today for an inspection and only if required will we propose a solution.

Without electricity, most of the things we do and rely on on a daily basis wouldn’t be there. So while electricity is so ingrained into our lives that we can take it for granted and hardly notice it’s there, if there’s an electrical problem, it can often be difficult to notice anything else!
No matter how simple or urgent any electrical repairs seem, it’s never okay to attempt to handle them on your own. Trying to take care of electrical problems without professional training is extremely dangerous. If you or someone else isn't hurt during your attempt, there’s still a chance that you’ve left something undone that poses a huge risk to you, your home, or your family. In fact, faulty electrical wiring and poorly maintained electrical appliances or apparatus are the number one cause of house fires in many locations. So in order to make sure that your home is safe, always rely on a professional for any electrical services.

Replacing your old incandescent or halogen lamps with energy efficient LED lighting is one of the most popular ways homeowners today are achieving savings on electricity consumption. An added benefit is that LED lamps have a much greater lifetime than conventional light bulbs and they do not generate as much heat. In every way they are better for the environment.
LED stands for “Light Emitting Diode” and they do not have filaments. These days they are available in in many sizes, colours and brightness ratings. They are now also widely used in vehicle headlamps and indicator lights.
They have a long life, and most are expected to last at least 5 years with normal use. It’s a bit early to say for sure just yet but it is likely that many will last for as much as 10 years or more.
There are many colour options and some can even be colour controlled by an App on your phone, but soft white and soft yellow colours are the most popular for residential interior use.
LED lights are incredibly energy efficient with examples of a 9 watt LED emitting as much light as a 60 watt incandescent filament bulb. With savings like this the cost of your electricity can certainly reduce over a period of time. For this reason they are the obvious choice for exterior sensor or security lighting too.
I offer a wide range of LED lighting solutions which are quality backed by Australian suppliers. Please contact me to discuss the best options for your home or business.
